You are invited to explore the wooden churches full of symbolism that reflect commitment, humility and faith of our ancestors. They belong to the most precious cultural monuments of Slovakia. There was no empty luxury dominating in their architectural and artistic expression, rather the simplicity and utility. Particularly unique was the construction technology, where all the material had to be made of wood, no use of nails was allowed in the construction. About 40 wooden churches have been preserved, whose foundations date back to different periods of 17th-19th century. Each of these churches is outstanding in its originality of design, what has been proved by the inclusion of four wooden churches of the Prešov self-governing region into the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage List.
