The Vihorlat Observatory in Humenné, founded in 1952, is a regional specialized scientific, research, cultural, educational and professional observation institution in the field of astronomy and related sciences. It is easily accessible to visitors and offers the lectures and observation by a Cassegrain telescope with main mirror of 250 mm in diameter placed in a dome of 4 m in height. The scientific activities of the observatory are concentrated in the detached workplace in the Astronomical Observatory at the Kolonicky Saddle in beautiful surroundings between the Vihorlat Mountains and the Bukovsky Hills, 38 km away from Humenné. The observatory is dominated by the Vihorlat National Telescope (VNT) - Cassegrain type telescope with a main mirror of 1 m in diameter – the largest telescope in Slovakia.
