A Gothic St. Martin cathedral, with gold-plated representation of the Hungarian royal crown, is situated just below the castle. This threenaved gothic cathedral is the most eminent sacral construction of the city. It is located on the Rybné square, in the place of the original roman church. A neological synagogue used to stand just beside the cathedral, but in 1967 it was pulled down due to construction of the New bridge. The interior of the cathedral contains works of many famous artists. St. Martin cathedral belongs to National Cultural Monument.
