Snina Ponds

Sninské rybníky

Recreation area of the Snina Ponds is situated at a distance of about 3 km from Snina in the valley of the Bystrý Creek. It was originally created for the development of fisheries; later, it became known for its natural swimming pools. In addition to opportunities for sport fishing (the Mlynisko Pond), it offers excellent opportunities for hiking. It is the starting point of the tourist route to the Sninský kameň, there it continues to the largest volcanic lake in Slovakia – the Sea Eye. It is also popular among bikers who use it for rides through the Vihorlat Mountains along the route of the former narrow gauge track. It presents a natural linking of surrounding villages Kolonica and Zemplínske Hámre that offer other attractions – the Astronomical Observatory on the Kolonické Saddle or the Huta Farmyard in Zemplínske Hámre. There is also a war cemetery of the World War I in Giglovo (335 m above sea level).
