Parish Church Žehra

Žehra

Parish Church of the Holy Spirit in Žehra was built by craftsmen who also worked on the Spiš Castle. Spiš travertine was used as a building material. The church in a transitional early Roman - early Gothic style was finished in 1275. Two styles intersect in this church – subsiding Roman style and incoming Gothic style. Rare Gothic frescoes of the world importance have been preserved in the interior - unique medieval wall paintings which have been created in stages since the second half of the 13th until the end of the 15th century. Over the centuries the church has been modified several times until it reached the current appearance.
