Vast waters of the Orava dam (it is also known as "Orava Sea") and beautiful natural scenery are magnetic for the lovers of relax, water sports, and unique national architecture and art. Out of five villages having been flooded by water, only the hillock has been preserved with its Calvary and Church built in the Baroque style having thus formed island in the middle of water – it is the Slanický ostrov island or Ostrov umenia. Rare exposition of history and folk art of the region can be found here. Unforgettable are also the ship trips to the island. “Slanica” ship of the Orava Gallery sails to the island from the port No. 2 daily in the season (from May 15 th till September 15 th) starting off at 9.00 a.m.
