The emergence of the oldest observatory in Slovakia, Hurbanovo, deserved dr. Mikuláš Konkoly-Thege. The Astrophysical observatory, one of the first in Europe was founded in 1871 and the end of the 19th century belonged to one of the best equipped. Dr. Konkoly devoted all his life the development of science and scientific knowledge. The evidence of his scientific activity are 40 original scientific works. The fear that after his death extinguished observatory and its equipment shall cease to use their entire property, house, garden and all the equipment of observatories dedicated State (18. 5. 1899), provided that the observatory will remain in Hurbanovo, and while on her founder of lives would be unremunerated director.
