The remains of the massive medieval fortress of the castle Lietava towers above the surroundings of Žilina and belong to the largest in Slovakia. During the medieval times, the castle was considered as impregnable and the vast surroundings belonged to it. The castle was built at the beginning of the 14th century and its first famous owner was Matúš Čák Trenčiansky. The castle is an ideal place for hiking and as a reward for climbing up to the castle you will receive a magnificent view on the surrounding countryside.
