Golf is one of the most popular and at the same time one of the healthiest sports in the world. Basically, it is a kind of walking combined with a lot of fun. You can play it anytime no matter what the weather is like which also contributes to its ever-increasing popularity. It is rather a lifestyle and it has become common in Slovakia as well.
Generally speaking, all you need to do is to play a hole on the golf course. Most of them have 9 or 18 holes which are situated on a perfectly low level of grass. Each player has his/her ball and they walk around the golf course in small groups. They play against each other. Golf is becoming more and more popular in Slovakia which is confirmed by ever-increasing number of golf courses and golf clubs. In 1991 the dream of all golf players has become true and the Slovak Golf Union was founded. Thanks to its efforts and thanks to the establishment of the first golf centre you can also become its part. At present there are 10 outdoor golf courses in Slovakia and new ones are to be built soon. The latest ones are the 18-hole courses in Bernolákovo and Tatranská Lomnica in the High Tatra where international golf competitions take place. Veľká Lomnica offers to golf fans not only the beautiful environment of the Black Stork Centre but also tradition of playing golf since 1906. What is curious about this place is the largest indoor teeing ground in Slovakia with the square area of stunning 350 metres. And where does the name Black Stork come from? It is because this kind of animal – black stork – has been visiting Veľká Lomnica for decades and has become a symbol of this golf centre. It provides not only an opportunity to play golf but also high-quality services of golf equipment rental, golf school and comfortable hotel located at the foot of the High Tatra Mountain. Moreover, the number of holes is constantly increasing. The latest news is a 3-hole academy for those who have never held a golf club so that they are able to discover the charms of playing golf.

The 18-hole golf course in Tále is also famous - it is constantly developing and apart from playing golf and having fun you can also rest outside in beautiful natural scenery. Soon there will be another 27-hole golf course in Brezinky, just 27 kilometres distant from the golf course in Tále. Golf is conquering the Eastern Slovakia as well via newly reconstructed golf course Alpinka in Košice. If you happen to visit the spa resort Piešťany you will find a 9-hole Spa-Golf Club there, not to speak about nearby spa complex which enables you to find a perfect rest in order to restore your energy after the whole day of walking and playing golf. If you go to Bratislava you will not be able to hide yourself from golf as well. The Bernolákovo Golf and Country Club offers all-year round golf course in a beautiful park with an exquisite baroque manor house. The Elán Golf Club in Čierna Voda with its soft green on the 6-hole golf course is very close to Bratislava as well. Golf courses open to public are, for example, in the spa resort Sliač in the Central Slovakia, near the town of Senec in the Záhorie Region or in the spa resort Rajec.
