Powerful and most beautiful preserved castle near Bratislava clearly visible especially from greater distances. Originally it was a royal castle and its history falls into the 13th century. In the 16th century it was rebuilt into a fort and became a top architectural representative of the former defense strategy. Since 1583 until the Second World War its history and settlement had been associated with significant Hungarian family Pálffy who rebuilt it into a representative residence during this period. Currently there is a museum presenting historical housing of aristocracy in the castle. Because of its stunning interiors and exteriors with rich stucco and fresco interior paintings the castle has been used for filming movies and fairytales known in both Europe and the whole world – these include Princess Fantaghiro, Dragon Heart or Panna Cinka. The magic of fairy tales is induced by a beautiful massive linden avenue leading to the gateway area which has been preserved since the era of Baroque garden arrangement of the castle surroundings.
